Sword Art Online: Kirito Sword WIP by loveshina Sword Art Online: Kirito Sword WIP by loveshina
So I finally got around to starting on this. This is the first part of a full cosplay that I plan on making and wearing to the next convention I go to, most likely Oni-con.
The material is poplar, and it was cut out mostly on a large band saw (I had to re-saw the board as it was too thick as it was) and the details were cut using a scroll saw.

How heavy is it? I also do propmaking and some of my wood swords are just too heavy, and if I do it with plywood, I can't really work nice te edges :s
Help please!

It only weighs a few pounds, doesn't seem like much to me. It's made of 1/2" poplar, not a very heavy wood, but is still quite sturdy and works well.

Is the blade and the handle whole? or is it a 3-part sandwich like hilt-blade-hilt glued together?

:iconloveshina:

It's a three part sandwich.

Just being careful, at this stage it was pretty rough, but I cut just on the outside of my lines to give myself a little wiggle room.

Whats the width on the widest part of the sword. Where the sword and hilt join together?

A basic question, so I hope you see this haha. What glue did you use? I feel like any glue I use, too much would be applied, adding to the thickness.

Just wood glue. I spread a thin layer on with my finger then clamp the pieces tightly together. It doesn't add anything to the thickness.

I was guna try to make mine out of eva foam with el wire along the blade so it lights up like a skill and a fiberglass rebar center. Anime North 2013 should be fun

This time I actually drew it out by hand on a large sheet of butcher paper. Other times I've drawn it out on a small piece of paper and brought it to kinkos and had them print it at the size I need.

I plan on doing a bit of a tut on the sheath in the next few days and eventually on the Dark Repulser. I don't plan on making a Lambent Light, but the same techniques should work, I'll gladly offer any advice if you need it as well.d

Hi There, i'm actually planning to make this sword for Comic Fiesta that is gonna held on 22nd Dec in my country. I have read the comments from other people's questions. So, just to make sure, :P The lenght of the blade is around 30 inch and overall is 40 inch, and it's thickness is about 1 inch? what about it's broadness? is it 5'5'' from the end of the blade (the curve part)? or the blade? Just want to make sure. C:

Yes, the blade is 30 inches, and 40 overall. It's just under a half inch thick, and the width is 2 inches. The 5'5" is my height, I was suggesting that if you are significantly taller than that to increase the length of the blade a bit.

I popped by on your other picture, but I kind of want to go back to the basics first. 2 questions for clarity, if you don't mind disclosing a little information:

1) To my understanding, you made one cut of the blade, blade and hilt in all. Then, you made 2, one of which is reflecting of the fancy design that is just above the guard (flower, curved thing? :P) and sandwiched the whole piece between those two?
2) If my assumption above is correct, how thick is the whole piece and the two "sandwich-bread pieces"? Also, what's the approximate width of the blade? It seems kind of big in the picture.

Thanks (:

Yeah, it is the three pieces with one sandwiched. The main piece is just under a 1/2 inch thick, and the other peices are just under 1/4 inch. (I think)

Thanks! I made mine 40 inches overall and about 30 of that for the blade. You might want to make yours a bit longer if you're taller than me, I'm rather short and I scaled it to my size.
